The Five Numbers That Matter Most in Your Business

Walk away with your 5 most important numbers and how to approach them.

There’s a folder on most business owners’ desktops called something like “Reports” or “Financials.” A lot of them haven’t opened it this month. Or a file in your XERO account that you know you should know more about but it’s gotten embarrassing to ask about.

Because somewhere along the way, reading a P&L started to feel like someone else’s language.

Let’s be graceful – it’s a “nobody event taught you this” problem that we can solve.

Finance Basics: Know Your Numbers – a two-hour, plain-English session on the five numbers that actually tell you how your business is going.

By the end of the workshop, participants will:

  1. Understand the five numbers that matter most in their business — revenue, gross margin, operating profit, cash, and looking ahead.
  2. Feel more confident reading their own financial reports, without needing an accounting background.
  3. Understand why profit and cash can tell two different stories and know where to look when they do.
  4. Identify the biggest opportunities and risks currently sitting in their own numbers.
  5. Leave with three practical, written actions to build financial confidence over the next 90 days.

Quick introduction before Thursday’s Finance Basics: Know Your Numbers session.

Dianne Dickson runs Brightside Advisory Co out of Mount Eliza – one of ours. Before she was helping Peninsula business owners get their numbers under control, she spent 12 years as CFO for Grain & Bake Co, taking it from $0 to $45M, after cutting her teeth at PwC across Australia, the UK and Italy.

She’s spent her career turning exactly the kind of report that makes most business owners’ eyes glaze over into the three or four numbers that actually matter. That’s what she’s bringing to Mount Martha House on Thursday.
