Watch out for counterfeit notes

Local businesses are being reminded to stay alert when accepting $50 and $100 banknotes following reports of counterfeit notes circulating.

Counterfeit notes can be difficult to identify, particularly during busy trading periods. Taking a few extra seconds to check a note could help your business avoid a financial loss.

When accepting higher-value notes, check that:

• the clear window is part of the note
• printing is sharp and clearly defined
• security features change when the note is tilted

Suspect a Counterfeit Note?

Remember: Store It, Note It, Report It.

• Store it safely by handling the note as little as possible and placing it in an envelope.
• Note the details, including how the note came into your possession.
• Report it to your local police station.
