Free Australian Government resources can help you recruit people if you are one of many tourism businesses suffering workforce shortages.

Employing people under-represented in the workforce – such as people with disability or older and younger Australians – could meet labour needs while helping to build a secure, resilient workforce – a priority of THRIVE 2030,

Australia’s visitor economy national strategy.

The October 2022 Budget’s $48 million commitment to support the tourism and travel industry included Austrade’s Choose Tourism Grant Program. The program combined grants for State and Territory governments and tourism bodies to attract workers to the sector and Austrade communication campaigns to encourage workers to choose tourism as a career, and to support tourism businesses with workforce challenges.

Tourism Research Australia’s Tourism Workforce Report (October 2023) found tourism-related job vacancies peaked at 26,274 in August 2022. This was almost 3 times higher than the pre-pandemic average (the average of 2018 and 2019).
