With the 2023 program now open, we are taking the time to celebrate the winners from last year.
The Mornington Peninsula Business Excellence Awards recognise innovation, sustainability and excellence across businesses of all types. They are a chance to showcase the outstanding work of local businesses. Here, we celebrate the winner of the Tourism category, Moonraker Dolphin Swims.
This award acknowledges a business that provides a unique customer experience, and offers a well-crafted, signature product or provides tourism services and/or products to both the local community and visitors to the region.
Moonraker Dolphin Swims is a multi-award winning, long-established marine tourism business operating from Sorrento Pier. It offers guests the unique opportunity to swim and or sightsee with the resident dolphins, seals and marine life of Port Phillip.
The judges chose Moonraker because of their commitment to making all customers feel welcome and able to participate in the experience, their catering for customers that are afraid of water, overweight or disabled, their curriculum designed for school students which educates them about the sea, their innovation in using a saltwater converter for showers and their custom designed, purpose-built tour vessel which maintains world’s best practice standards for fuel efficiency, environmental impact, energy and water use.
Our aim is to create a truly wild dolphin and seal experience like no other in the world, an experience that would take tourists on a remarkable wildlife journey
In 2022 Moonraker Dolphin Swims was inducted into the Eco Tourism Australia national hall of fame, celebrating 20 years of industry leadership and one of only 26 businesses Australia wide to be Australia’s ‘Green Travel Leaders’. Moonraker Dolphin Swims has received state, national and international tourism awards for eco-tourism industry leadership recognised by winning the RACV 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2018 Victorian Tourism award for Eco Tourism and QANTAS Australian Tourism Awards for Eco Tourism.
A big congratulations goes out to the other impressive finalists in this category including Bass and Flinders Distillery. Bass and Flinders is a family-owned and operated artisanal, premium spirits producer. Their aim is to produce premium gin and brandy, to reignite interest in brandy and disrupt imports.
Another finalist included Carmel at Sorrento, a luxury accommodation for those are seeking a sophisticated coastal vacation.
