Help to do handwashing right

Handwashing remains an important part of food safety at all food businesses and helps to prevent the spread of food borne illness, but how do you make sure your staff are doing it right?

Under the Food Standards code a separate hand washing basin should be provided for staff in food premises. It is important to only use that basin for handwashing, but providing the hand basin, soap and paper towel is only part of the process. Your staff may need training in when they need to wash their hands, and how to do it properly.

The Shire’s Environmental Health Team has prepared a short handwashing video for food businesses and community groups that serve food. It is only a couple of minutes long, so is perfect to share with your staff as a training exercise, or include it in your staff induction process.
