The Melbourne Convention Bureau (MCB) has launched The Positive Impact of Business Events Report, showcasing the significant economic and social benefits that business events bring to Victoria. The report highlights how these events contribute to community engagement, sector growth, education, trade, and investment, leaving lasting legacies.
Unveiled at the opening press conference of the Asia Pacific Incentives and Meetings Event (AIME) 2025, MCB Chief Executive Officer Julia Swanson emphasised the vital role business events play in shaping Melbourne’s economy and global reputation.
“From the strengthening of leadership and international partnerships of the Asia Pacific Offshore Wind & Green Hydrogen Summit in 2023, to the community engagement of the 2024 Lions International Convention, and the lasting legacy and impact of the 20th International AIDS Conference, business events are invaluable to Victoria,” Swanson said.
The report features case studies from the past decade, demonstrating how business events have advanced industry growth, driven technological innovation, and created networking opportunities. Additionally, these events stimulate collaboration and contribute to sustainable development outcomes.
According to the report, MCB has secured 1,620 business events over the past ten years, generating $2.34 billion in economic contribution. These events have attracted 610,000 delegates to Victoria, leading to 1.3 million hotel room nights booked. Furthermore, business events have supported local employment, with an estimated 29,000 jobs created across event planning, hospitality, transportation, and other industries.
By underscoring the tangible benefits of business events, the report reinforces the vital role they play in driving economic growth and fostering long-term connections within key sectors.
