Changes to Footpath Trading: What Businesses Need to Know

Mornington Peninsula Shire has updated its Footpath Trading Policy. The Policy defines how businesses use footpaths and nature strips for signage, displays, and outdoor trading. All businesses must hold a valid permit to continue using these spaces.

To ensure footpaths remain safe, accessible, and vibrant, the updated policy outlines the requirements for businesses:

• A Footpath Trading Permit is required for any items placed on the footpath, including:
  • A-frame signs
  • Tables and chairs (with or without liquor service)
  • Umbrellas, heaters, screens, planter boxes
  • Displays of goods
• Businesses in residential, commercial, or industrial zones must also obtain a permit for A-frame signs placed on the footpath or nature strip directly in front of their premises.

The Shire is waiving the permit application free for the next 12 months.
