Free tax advice for businesses in Melbourne’s southeast

The Chisholm Tax Clinic is a student-run service providing free, independent, confidential tax information and advice. It is available to residents and businesses across southeast Melbourne and the Mornington Peninsula region.

Supported by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and under the guidance of certified practicing tax professionals, students can provide you with quality tax advice and help you with your tax requirements.

A range of services are offered, including: 

  • Using myGov and ATO online tools
  • Assisting clients with understanding what a Tax file number (TFN) is, locating or creating a new one
  • Providing tax information: Income and deductions, goods and services tax (GST), pay-as-you-go (PAYG) instalments, residency, capital gains tax (CGT), small business tax obligations
  • Providing information about lodging tax returns
  • Providing information about business registrations: ABN and GST registration, cancellations
  • Providing information with business activity statements (BAS)
  • Helping to manage tax debt: Payment plans, penalty remission requests, hardship requests
  • Helping to understand ATO decisions and other information.

Who is eligible?

The Tax Clinic is a service designed for individuals and small businesses that meet the following criteria:

  • Are based in Australia
  • Are currently not represented by a tax agent
  • Require assistance with their tax affairs

The Chisholm Tax Clinic prioritises individuals and small businesses experiencing serious financial hardship. This includes those referred by our community partner organisations who can’t afford or access a tax agent.

Please note: while face-to-face sessions are located in Dandenong, online services/virtual meetings are available.
