Woman has a questioning look

Finding the right staff can be stressful and while you wait to hire it adds pressure to existing rosters and impacts customer service.  Recruitment can also be time-consuming, and the work is just beginning as retaining staff is an ongoing job for a business owner. It is important to get it right.

Did you know that 38.7% of peninsula residents travel outside of the region to go to work, whereas 27.1% travel into the peninsula to work (mainly from Frankston or Casey). Our peninsula shape is an issue for attracting commuters, and our best hope of securing employees is to employ those that live locally. Skills shortages are growing in the hospitality, trades and aged care sectors.

People entering the workforce now are expected to have 18 jobs across 6 industries in their lifetime. Transferable skills are important. Employers can longer simply ‘advertise and take their pick’. Employees are looking for more in a job than ever before, and the jobs we offered five years ago may not be as appealing as they once were. How do we make our jobs attractive to younger people, older people, people with school aged children, people for whom English is a second language, people with a disability, people who don’t really know what career they are looking to take on next?
