Following a dry spring and summer, the Mornington Peninsula is facing an exceptionally dry autumn. Many local farmers are relying on water cartage to sustain crops and livestock as dam levels drop.
In response to worsening conditions, the Victorian Government has expanded eligibility for the On-Farm Drought Infrastructure Grants program to include the Mornington Peninsula, as well as parts of central, south-west and north-east Victoria.
The program offers grants of up to $5,000 (excluding GST) to help primary producers invest in on-farm infrastructure that supports drought preparedness—such as water storage, irrigation upgrades, or stock containment areas.
This is a dollar-for-dollar grant, meaning successful applicants contribute 50% of the cost and receive 50% through the program.
Although applications for the Mornington Peninsula are not yet open, local producers are encouraged to lodge an Expression of Interest now by emailing admin@ruralfinance.com.au. This will ensure you are contacted as soon as the application window opens.
