Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme launched on Wednesday, 1 November. The scheme is designed to encourage more and better recycling – and reduce waste and litter.
After collection, containers will be recycled and turned into new plastic, glass or aluminium containers or other useful recycled products.
On the Peninsula, the scheme is delivered by network operator Return-It. Mornington Peninsula Shire has worked with Return-It to ensure collection points are in convenient locations across the Peninsula.

Reverse vending machines are convenient self-service return points:
Depots are staffed centres that can sort and count bulk loads of drink containers. There’s one depot on the Peninsula, located at 1/8 Henry Wilson Drive, Rosebud.
Most collection points are operated directly by Return-It. Selected locations are operated in partnership with social enterprise, Hoxton. Hoxton provides training and employment opportunities for people with disabilities or other barriers to mainstream employment.
Peninsula-based community groups and businesses can contact Return-It directly (via their website) to register as a collection point provider, or for charity and community group fundraising. Mornington Peninsula Shire is not involved in this selection process and can’t be contacted regarding fundraising opportunities.
The list of collection points is likely to grow with time. Keep an eye on Return-It’s webpage to see the list of locations and opening hours.
Return-It is actively seeking businesses to partner with to serve as over-the-counter collection point operators for Victoria’s Container Deposit Scheme. As an operator of an over-the-counter collection point, your business will receive a handling fee for each eligible container processed.
If your business is interested in joining as a collection point, email Alex on the address below.
